Well, this turned out to be easier than I originally thought. After the initial suspicion not much of the blame has been thrown my way. Maybe I should thank Tituba, mentally of course, for tossing out names left and right. It has certainly made me look like the victim...which I am! And to sweeten the deal I saw Marry Warren sowing a poppet today in the court. So I had a thought, tonight at dinner while Reverend Parris wasn't looking I'll prick myself with a needle like Mary Warren was using. They'll never suspect I was the one to do it, witchcraft...that's the answer. And when they ask what happened I'll testify it was Mrs. Proctor's familiar spirit that pushed it in! Sounds perfect doesn't it?
Turned out even better then expected! Cheever and Herrick went out with a warrant to the Proctor farm to take the old crone into custody! I just hope poor John let her go in peace, fighting for that witch will do more harm than good and he knows it! But whatever he believes will be remedied in time, especially when I have him to myself. Now as long as that Marry Warren doesn't get in the way, Mrs. Proctor will be gone and the town can go back to being normal. But I remember Mercy's words of warning "She means to tell, I know it" (Miller 18). And who's to say she's wrong? I have to watch my back, and pray to God with more reverence than ever before. I'll show her for almost ratting us out!
Tituba is scared by your words. You are clever and calculated. You hurt many people. Why do you think like this?
